Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse

Julie Sykes

Julie is a registered nurse with special training and a wealth of experience in prostate cancer having worked in both the UK and Western Australia in senior urology nursing roles. Julie’s work has involved the delivery of several nurse-led diagnostic and cancer survivorship services which are close to her heart. She has also been responsible for initiatives to promote nursing best practice and to improve patient care outcomes, including the development of evidence-based practice standards, policies and consumer materials. Julie is also past president of the Australia and New Zealand Urological Nursing Society and has an extensive publication and presentation profile on prostate cancer nursing and research. Most relevant to her role at the Prostate Care Centre is Julie’s experience in developing and implementing the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia’s Prostate Cancer Specialist Nursing Service. This national program currently funds 45 prostate cancer specialist nurses hosted in hospitals across Australia, and provides men and their families with a much needed extra level of support. Julie welcomes all men and their families affected by prostate cancer who live in the Joondalup or Wanneroo shires or who are under the care of a specialist at Shenton House in Joondalup or Joondalup Health Campus.

Whether it’s for diagnosis or treatment, patients attending the PCC are treated as individuals by a team of specialist doctors and allied health professionals with complimentary skill sets who really do care. It’s a true multidisciplinary approach.
